Description

A superb Regency period figured rosewood stick barometer with decorative brass stringing and engraved silvered scale by William Ure of Glasgow c.1820. The slim proportioned case with moulded architectural pediment to the top, the silvered scale below sat behind a glazed door with tucks to the lower corners. The slim trunk with feathered figured veneers set either side of the barometer tube, hinged opening oval cistern cover door to the base. The case inlaid throughout with brass stringing and with an unusual pinstripe design on the cistern cover. Bears the makers name William Ure, Glasgow to the scale (worked 1812 to 1820 at 15 Deanside Lane, Glasgow). Vernier marker set to the side with mercury action stick barometer tube to the centre. Fully serviced and working, a superb quality instrument presented in immaculate condition. Measures 40.5" long x 4" wide at the pediment x 2.25" wide at the trunk x 1.5" max depth. Stock number 39606.
