A superb quality George III period figured mahogany serpentine fronted knife box with solid silver lock escutcheon, lid handle and original fitted interior c.1820. Figured mahogany veneers to the lid slope and serpentine front and sides. Superb quality with decorative fretted solid silver lock escutcheon and locking clasp to the front, plus complementing axe drop handle with fretwork backplate to the lid. The hinged lid opening to reveal an original fitted interior with divisions to hold the knives and silver wire work overlays to the original red fabric covering. Bears the makers mark for Thomas Newbold to the silver fittings along with silver standard mark. Presented in superb original condition with a rich colour and patina.
