A superb George III period figured oak and mahogany cross banded brass and silvered dial longcase clock by John Lawrence of Lancaster c.1770. The fine quality case typical of highly regarded Lancaster cabinet makers Gillows, constructed from figured oak with mahogany trim and crossbanding to the hood, matching columns set either side of the hood door. The trunk with shaped top crossbanded door flanked by quarter columns to match the hood. The base with matching timbers and moulded edge forming the foot with original bracket feet. Brass and engraved silvered dial with Roman numerals and decorative dial centre, dummy winding holes set either side. The 30 hour movement with anchor escapement and bell striking to the hour. John Lawrence of Lancaster is recorded in Clocks of North Lancashire & Westmoreland by Susan Stuart as making in Penny St, Lancaster from 1754 and was made a freeman of the city. This fine quality example in superb original condition with a wonderful colour and rich patina, fully serviced, working and guaranteed.  Measures 81" high x 21" maximum width at the hood x 10" maximum depth x 13.5" trunk width. Stock number 39784.
