Description

A large early Victorian solid silver pocket or table top vinaigrette with wavy edge border and fine quality engraving, hallmarked Birmingham 1845. The case with wavy outer edge to all four inverted sides and matching base section. The top and bottom surfaces are engine turned with fine quality engraving running around the outer edge and a blank polished cartouche central to the top and an engraved flower head decoration to the rear. The front with flange to aid opening with the hinged lid opening to reveal a gilded interior with fretwork cover to the base for keeping the scented sponge in place. Bears the makers mark for Birmingham silversmith Edward Smith, noted vinaigrette maker, along with clear hallmarks to all sections.  Presented in excellent condition with a deep shine. Measures 1.5" wide x 1.25" deep x 0.4" high. Stock number 41659.
