A fine quality early Victorian slim proportioned marine stick barometer and gimble by Walker of London C.1850. Slim polished mahogany case with rounded sides and flat front, hinged door to the top covering the bone vernier scale. Mercury action thermometer to the interior of the door. Brass securing loop to the top for fastening back when not in use and polished brass cistern cover to the base. Sat in the original hinged gimble, can be displayed sat back to the wall. Bears the makers name' Walker, London' J & A Walker, are recorded in Banfields book as working at 47 Bernard St. London between 1823 & 1859, and specialised nautical instruments. Superb quality and condition with original patina and good deep polish to the brass. Fully overhauled movement. Measures 39" long x 1.5" wide x 1.5" deep. 2.5" diameter cistern cover. Sits 11.5" from wall on gimble or 3.5" folded in.
