A small proportioned William & Mary period figured walnut escritoire with superb fitted interior c.1700. Broad stepped moulded cornice to the top with bow fronted map drawer below and figured book matched walnut fall front with herringbone banding forming the panel. Broad moulded trim forming a waist below the fall front. The base section with two over two drawer formation and moulded frame sat in between. The drawers veneered to match the top section with herringbone banding, moulded plinth to the base with bun feet below; walnut veneers to the sides.... The fall front opening to form a large useable writing surface with inset leather to the centre, which can be lifted to form a slope. The back of the interior fully fitted with a selection of drawers and a row of pigeon holes across the top; each pulling out to reveal a concealed compartments behind. Cupboard to the centre of the interior with a further set of drawers behind a concealed panel. Decorative brass fittings and complementing lock escutcheons. Superb rich colour and deep polish throughout, presented in excellent unaltered condition. Measures 44" maximum width x 20" deep x 66.5" high. Stock number 41266.
