A rare and very collectable William & Mary period silver trefid design Betrothal spoon by highly regarded maker William Swadling, hallmarked London 1694. A very early tablespoon with trefid design end to the long handle and unusual beaded rat tail to the rear of the spoon well. Betrolthal engraving to the top of the spoon, the upper letter being the surname and the lower letters the initials of the couple married. Superb clear hallmarks and makers mark for prolific London silversmith William Swadling. Presented in excellent condition with an original hand polished patina. Measures 2" wide at ...the bowl x 2.75" long at the bowl x 0.5" deep at the bowl x 7.75" long over all. Stock number CS117.
