A superb quality late Victorian solid oak pedestal desk with panelled sides and back by John P White of Bedfordshire and maker to Ballie Scott c.1890. The wide front combined with a narrow depth to the desk with generous kneehole, leather writing surface to the top with broad oak and moulded edges. Three graduated drawers below to each pedestal, each with deep moulded edges forming a panelled effect and original turned ebony knobs. The sides, back and interior of the kneehole with panelled finish and a broad stepped apron foot to the base. Bears the makers label for... John P White, Pyghtle Works, Bedford 1855-1917; renowned maker of Arts & Crafts furniture, garden furniture and for designers such as Baillie Scott. Presented in excellent condition with original colour and polish and a new dark red leather writing surface. Measures 60.5" wide x 24" deep x 29.5" high. Kneehole,measures 24" wide x 22.5" high.
