A charming and rare George V period solid silver topped 'sitting hen' single egg crock on the original salt glazed pottery basket base, hallmarked Chester 1912. The solid silver top formed to resemble a sitting hen with superb detail and original amber glass eyes to the head. A salt glazed dish forming the base, resembling a wicker basket, with embossed makers mark for Crown, Dorset; sized to hold one egg. The silver top with clear hallmarks, registered number and makers name for Piccadilly, London for retailers Barret & Sons. A most unusual item, probably for serving a single egg at the table, presented in immaculate condition, the pottery base in perfect unrestored condition. Measures 3.75" wide x 2.75" deep x 3.75" high.
