An outstanding quality late Victorian solid mahogany three section Globe Wernicke bookcase with paneled sides and bevelled edge glass c.1900. Originally Wernicke bookcases were made to a variety of quality standards, this particular example being the most expensive version when made. The top with dental moulded edge to the front and acanthus mounts to each side, fielded panel sides to each section and reeded pilasters to the front sat over serpentine front rails. The up and over doors with quarter plate bevelled edge glass and original brass knobs; patinated green painted interior...s with original makers labels. The base section with single drawer, original brass swan neck fittings and acanthus leaf design mounts to the sides to match the top. Separates into five sections for moving. Presented in superb original condition with a rich unfaded colour and deep polish. Measures 35.5" wide x 15" deep x 13" internal depth x 47" high. Stock number 40211.
