An impressive Victorian solid oak stick barometer with painted glass scales by Cooke of Hull c.1880. The quality solid polished mid oak case with moulded broken arch pediment, carved sunburst design below and matching carved ears to the top and base of the trunk. Moulded edge cistern cover to the base. Bevelled edge glass sat over the reverse painted glass double scales with twin vernier markers for today and yesterday, mercury action tube to the centre. Matching scale to the thermometer with original mercury action thermometer. Fully overhauled movement and presented in excellent condition wi...th an original patina. Measures 40" long x 8.25" maximum width x 4" maximum depth. Stock number CS36.
