A fine quality George III period mahogany stick barometer with engraved silvered scale by William Watkins, London c.1800. The slim solid Cuban mahogany case with arched top and moulded edge. The outer edge of the case decorated with a double band of fruitwood plus onion style cistern cover to the base. Engraved silvered scale to the top with vernier marker and the mercury action stick barometer tube sat in between; the tube visible to the centre of the trunk. Bears the makers name Watkins, London, who is recorded as making barometers at 22 James Street between 1784 and 1809. ...This instrument presented in superb original condition, the movement fully overhauled and working. Measures 37.5" long x 4.25" wide x 3" deep. Stock number 43374.
