A fine quality George III period mahogany stick barometer with engraved silvered scale by John Sutter of Edinburgh c.1811. The slim proportioned case with moulded edge to the trunk. feathered book matched veneers with ebony and fruitwood stringing and a mercury action barometer tube set to the centre. Glazed hinged door sat over the scale with architectural pediment above; oval cistern cover to the base. The engraved silvered scale with thermometer set to the side, bears the makers name for John Sutter, recorded making in Toddrick's Wynd, Edinburgh between 1811 & 1812. Beautifully ...made and presented in immaculate condition, fully overhauled and working. Measures 41" long x 5" maximum width x 2.5" trunk width x 2" deep. Stock number 40001.
