An impressive fine quality George III period double fusse bracket clock with verge escapement c.1785. The figured mahogany case with inverted bell top and Ormalu mounts and trim, matching decorative sunburst sound frets to the sides. Arched brass and silvered engraved dial, date aperture to the centre and Roman numerals to the chapter ring. Cast rocco gilt spandrels to the corners and strike-silent dial set to the arch. 8 day double fusse movement with engraved back plate, original verge escapement and hour striking on a bell with repeater. The dial bearing the makers name W Nicholason, London..., recorded making between 1753 and 1815. Superb mellow colour and original patina to the case, the movement fully overhauled and working. Measures 20.5" high x 12.5" wide x 8.5" deep at the base. Stock number 37460.
