A fine George III oak cased 8 day longcase clock with engraved brass and silvered dial with rocking ship automaton to the arch by sought after maker Jonas Barber of Winster. C1769. Quality small proportioned case with decorative lacquered panels to the swan neck pediment. Reeded pilaster to the hood, repeated on the trunk. Blind fretwork panel above the typically Westmorland shaped mahogany crossbanded door. Moulded framed panelled base. Superb engraved dial with silvered chapter ring and subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture below. Original decorative painted scene behind the rocking ship au...tomaton in the arch. The 8 day movement with anchor escapement and rack striking, with the front plate engraved by the maker ' Jonas Barber, Winster and numbered 825, indicating a year of manufacture according to records as 1768/9. Very original, fully overhauled movement. Measures 87" high x 22" wide at widest point x 9.5" deep. Stock Number 34016.
